August 2011

Dear friends!

On behalf of the committee of the Bristol French Circle I am delighted to welcome you to our 2011–2012 season. I know that we all share the same great pleasure in speaking and listening to this beautiful language, and I look forward to seeing you all again when the season starts again in October.

As always, we have tried to organise a varied programme which covers many different themes. Some of our speakers are well known to us, and we will be very pleased to welcome them back. Others will be with us for the first time and we look forward to getting to know them. Several of the fixed points of our calendar appear again – the conversation evenings, the book discussion and also Morceaux choisis, when members present a favourite poem, text or song to the rest of the group – always a very pleasant evening. Why not start to think about what you might like to present? Outside the published programme we will be having three restaurant visits – the dates of these appear on the calendar – and we will try to organise trips to see French films too. Remember that we are always very pleased to have your suggestions about possible activities for the Circle.

I would like to thank Kay and David Norris, who for the fourth summer running were kind enough to hold open house for French Circle members for another series of conversation evenings, which were much appreciated by all those who were able to take part. We are very grateful to them.

I will continue to offer a 'petit cours' at 7pm, before most of our meetings, for those of you who enjoy working (in a very light-hearted way) on French pronunciation, idioms and grammar points. All are welcome! The first 'petit cours' will be on 20th October.

If you have access to the internet, you will find all sorts of information about the French Circle, in English and in French, at: www.cfbristol.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing you at our French Circle meetings!

With best wishes
